I recently went on a trip to the Autry Museum, and it proved to be quite the good idea. Not only were there amazing costumes and artifacts from the old west, but there was this great photography exhibit going on called "Yosemite" which included artists like Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and Eadweard Muybridge. It's an exhibit dedicated to Landscape paintings and photography in the early 1900's. Amazing I say! Anyway, there was also a lot of old photographs on display of tribal chiefs, and cowboys, and things of that ilk. If you're in the area of the Autry, its well worth the trip for someone interested that is. The show's on till January I think.

IKEA Furniture makes for Guuuuud Canvas
I found myself hunting around the apartment for canvas this weekend, and being too lazy to go out and get some, resorted to painting on left-over and unused bits of furniture from Ikea. It took the Acrylic paint surprisingly well, and was a much more pleasant experience than painting on canvas anyway. It kind of took me back to rebellious and unruly highschool days. HA. (My apologies for the crappy Photos)

Last one, I swear....
I had to try it just one more time. Sorry for the penguin overload, but i've been drawing them for days. Just wanted to see if i could match up the style to the previous Leadbelly drawings. The awesome thing about Penguins is that they are already naturally simplified creatures. Good ol' Penguins. I actually tried making their faces look a bit like a fish, since they are so close to each other. Good ol' Fish. Good ol' Everything.
Okay, no more penguins.
Okay, no more penguins.

Belly

I was looking through a boook called "Cartoon Modern" last night and it was pretty amazing. It actually made me WANT to draw in my spare time which is a rare occurrence these days. Anyway, the book is filled with animation designs and drawings from the 50's and 60's (one of my favorite eras EVER) and i highly recommend taking a look at it. (theres a link to the writers blog at the top of my list!)
